Day Off Watch 2009: My How Time Flies

I've been thinking a lot about how time can get away from you. It's a truth universally acknowledged that when you're young, time crawls; that changes...I'm not sure when, but it's gradual, and then after you turn 25, the speed at which time passes quadruples.

First off, I missed last week...mostly because my day off was used to drive to my parents' in Pittsburgh. I also got some work in, looking at condo projects Downtown. Some awesome views:

Then I got to visit with my very special nephew dog (oh, and my family):

Today was much less eventful, but certainly fruitful. I ended the day having dinner with an old roommate, Sandra. This just accentuated how fast time flies. We realized it was 8 years ago that we lived together! The rest of the day was spent cleaning and getting groceries. One of my "tasks" was rearranging my medicine cabinet.

The truth is that products have shelf lives, despite what my mom says. I realized that I have had some lipsticks for at LEAST as long as I haven't lived with Sandra. Yes, that's right. Now, most of you know I'm not a hoarder. It's just, well,I don't use that much lipstick, and I really like these ones. I did remove them from the medicine cabinet, but have yet to actually dispose of them. It doesn't help that I bought 2 of them in Paris...I've attached memories to them! Oy. But I like the new neatness of my medicine cabinet.

I find certain things seem to, you never seem to buy them but they materialize, like pens and lip balm. I gave myself permission yesterday to dispose of a few lip balms which I also deemed past their prime. When you can carbon date products, it's time to let go. It was oddly freeing. I am now using a nice Kiehls lip balm...which is much nicer than having a bunch of random old ones hanging around!

  1. Aha! So you're the person all the pens fly to.
Medicine cabinet looks great. Isn't it fun to have things tidy?

  2. I spy "BareMinerals" products!

  3. Yep--Bare Minerals! Love 'em! I do love having it organized, too--it's a treat to see every day.

  4. I agree with you about the time observation. It's unbelievable how fast time goes by now. I, too, have fond memories of 305 Commonwealth and the Holy Trinity days when my most pressing concern was getting to Happy Hour before it ended and catching the metro before it stopped running on weeknights. Oh my early-mid twenties... how I wish I had some of that energy back, but that's probably it. Hindsight reveals I did some pretty stupid stuff back then :)

Since you have great taste in blogs, I don't think I have to tell you to be nice to each other...and don't spam me. Thanks!
